Anne Zanzucchi completed her Ph.D. at the University of Rochester in literary and composition studies. Shortly after completing her doctoral degree, she moved to California in 2004 for a lecturer position at UC Davis.

She joined UC Merced in 2005, when campus opened, as Lecturer in Writing. During that time, she had a joint appointment with the Center for Teaching and Learning, with a focus on program assessment and graduate education. In 2012, she joined the Senate faculty as a teaching professor and co-directed the Merritt Writing Program until 2016. During this time, Anne coordinated UC Merced’s program review of general education as part of her role as Chair of Undergraduate Council, which transitioned general education from a school-based to a campus-wide program. In Spring 2018, she was honored with the Dr. Fred Spiess Distinguished Service to the Academic Senate, for contributions with major impact on shared governance.

Anne is the associate dean for Student Services and Academics in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts. She also serves as chair of the University Committee on Educational Policy and has been involved in the systemwide Transfer Initiative as well as the Standardized Testing Task Force. Her upcoming publications are qualitative study of how graduate students are socialized to writing and a co-authored piece with the library on how undergraduates at the start of a major degree navigate information literacy.

Her teaching and research areas are in writing studies, with a focus on pedagogy, assessment, and digital media.
